Bill Carleton

Bill Carleton grew up in a musical family – starting with his grandfather performing Jazz in the 1940s at various USO shows. Bill's parents met by singing and playing guitar at college, and his brother Mike started playing electric guitar early on. It wasn't until Bill's senior year in high school
that he decided to start learning how to play – and he had all the resources in the world to learn thanks to his family's knowledge and the forever-sacred OLGA tablature archive. Bill's influences range from Shawn Colvin (with her songwriting approach) to Steely Dan and Led Zeppelin (for melodic arrangements and texture).

In 1996, Bill started writing original music during his first year of college at ECSU – playing shows on and around campus. This is where he first crossed paths with Alan Veniscofsky of RANE (who was later responsible for engineering/mixing/mastering and co-producing Diving Dreamers). They traded knowledge on the guitar between travis-style picking and alternate tunings, which propelled Bill in an entire new direction – setting the foundation for the alternate tuning approach that is now his signature sound. Ten years later, Bill has two full length releases under his belt, and is riding high with the incredible musicians that now make up the Bill Carleton Band.
